Health Hotlines for Moms

The text4baby service includes phone numbers to connect subscribers to resources. Below is the full list of hotlines including in the text4baby service.


Text4baby should not be used as a substitute for medical advice.  Your questions should be directed to a health care provider. If you feel this is an urgent matter, you should contact 911 or seek emergency care.


Nutrition and Food Assistance

  • Breastfeeding Support  
    The National Women’s Health Information Center’s National Breastfeeding Helpline answers questions and helps callers decide if they need to see a doctor or lactation consultant. Available 9:00AM – 6:00PM EST Monday through Friday in English and Spanish.

  • Nutrition Education and Food Assistance

    Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) offers a variety of services including nutrition education and counseling, checks and vouchers to purchase specific foods each month, and referrals to health, welfare and social services for pregnant women, mothers, and children.   • Food Assistance and Social Services
    The WHYHunger’s National Hunger hotline connects callers to emergency food, government assistance programs, a listing of local food pantries, and social services. Available Monday through Friday 9:00AM – 6:00PM EST in English and Spanish.

  • Food Bank Locator

    Feeding America’s food bank locators helps moms find food assistance near their home by zip code or state.


  • Vaccinations
    The CDC INFO hotline provides information on immunizations and connects callers to the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, which provides vaccines to children based on financial need. Available in English and Spanish from 8:00AM – 8:00PM EST, Monday through Friday.

  • Ask an Expert

    The March of Dimes’ website offers a feature to ask health professionals and experts any question regarding pregnancy, infant, and mom health.

  • Safe Sleep for infants

    The Safe to Sleep Campaign promotes infant back sleeping and other ways to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Callers can ask questions or order materials about sleep safety. Available in English and Spanish from 8:30AM - 4:00PM EST, Monday through Friday.

  • Eye Health

    InfantSEE® offers free comprehensive eye and vision assessments for infants between 6 and 12 months of age. The hotline provides directions on how to use the website. Available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

  • Access free and low-cost healthcare 

    The Maternal and Child Health Bureau Prenatal Helpline connects moms and pregnant women to free or low-cost medical care in their community. Available in English and Spanish with hours varying by state.

  • Support for quitting smoking

    The hotline connects callers to counselors for advice, support, and information about quitting smoking and help to develop a personalized quit plan. Available in English and Spanish and by live chat online. Hours of operation vary by state.

  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services

    The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Helpline provides free and confidential referrals to local treatment, support groups, and community-based organizations. Available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week in English and Spanish.

  • HIV Consultation and Referral Service


    The National Perinatal HIV Consultation and Referral Service offers counseling about HIV/AIDS and pregnancy, labor and delivery, and after pregnancy, and connects callers to health care. Available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

  • Women’s Health


    The Department of Health and Human Service’s Office on Women’s Health Helpline provides information and resources for various women’s health issues. Available in English and Spanish from 9:00AM – 6:00PM EST, Monday through Friday.

  • Birth Control Methods

    Bedsider provides information on different birth control methods and where to find them. They also provides a daily, weekly, or monthly birth control reminder by text or email.

  • Birth Control and Insurance


    The National Women’s Law Center’s Contraception hotline is available to receive help if health insurance won’t cover birth control without a co-pay.

  • Affordable Health Insurance
    The hotline provides information about affordable health insurance and helps callers apply. Available in English and Spanish from 8:00AM – 7:00 PM EST Monday through Friday and 9:00AM – 12:00PM on Saturday.

Mental Health & Support

  • Mental Health and Postpartum Depression Support

    The Postpartum Support International “Warmline” offers basic information, support, and resources for moms going through sadness, anxiety, or trauma. Callers can leave messages and will have their call returned within 24 hours in English or Spanish.

  • Grief Support


    First Candle’s hotline provides grief support to callers affected by the loss of a baby. Available Available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

  • Domestic Violence 

    The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential and anonymous crisis intervention, options for next steps, and connection to sources for immediate safety. It also provides specialized support for pregnant women and women with children. Available in English and Spanish, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Family Safety

  • Fire Safety
    The U.S. Fire Administration provides information on how to develop a fire safety plan and tips for keeping families safe.

  • Product Safety
    The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission protects families from products that are fire, electrical, chemical or mechanical dangers or can hurt children. Callers can make product safety complaints or ask if a product has been recalled. Available in English and Spanish Monday through Friday from 8:00AM - 5:30PM EST.

  • Medication and Product Safety 
    The Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS) provides information about chemicals and exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding, such as prescription medications, vitamins, alcohol, vaccinations, chemicals, and pesticides. Available in English or Spanish from 8:30AM - 3:30PM EST Monday through Thursday.

  • Car Seat Safety
    The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Child Seat Inspection Locator helps callers find a child safety seat inspection station. Certified technicians will inspect the child safety seat and show moms how to correctly install and use it. Available in English and Spanish from 8:00AM – 8:00PM EST Monday through Friday.

  • Lead Safety
    The National Lead Information Center (NLIC) provides information about lead-related health risks and how to prevent them. Available 8:00AM – 6:00PM EST Monday through Friday in English and Spanish.


    Poison Control
    The American Association of Poison Control Centers provide free poison expertise and treatment advice. Available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week in all languages.

  • Environmental Health


    The Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units provide information and resources about health and the environment, including air and water pollution, lead poisoning, home exposures, concerns about plastics in children’s products, and contributors to asthma and infant wheezing. Available Monday through Friday from 9:00AM – 5:00PM EST.

  • Free Diapers

    The National Diaper Bank Network offers a directory of places to get free or affordable diapers.

  • Free Cribs

    Cribs for Kids can help you find free cribs in your community.

  • Child Care
    Child Care Aware® provides information on how to locate quality child care. Available in English and Spanish from 8:30AM – 7:00PM EST Monday through Friday.

  • Homeless Shelters

    The National Coalition for the Homeless offers a directory and links for local homeless shelters, women’s shelters, transitional housing, food pantries, and health care.

  • Health and Resource Assistance


    The United Way 211 Hotline connects callers with health and human services near their home, often including food banks, clothing, shelters, physical and mental health resources, employment support, and family resource centers.

Work Pregnancy & Family

             The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) provides free, confidential technical assistance and information      

             about accommodations at work during pregnancy. Available in English and Spanish from 9:00AM – 6:00PM EST Monday through Friday.

             The National Partnership for Women and Families provides information about the legal rights guaranteed to pregnant women and families in the workplace.
